Covus printer spooling and xlC

During one of my upgrades for the TSM server I encountered a very odd behaviour of  the covus application server.
As TSM client v5.4 needs xlC8 in order to run properly (confirmed by IBM) Covus is not able to run on version 8.I had to switch back to version 6 to get the application running again.

Covus has no clue why this happened, and the developer told me “it should run”.
Well, it did not apparently.

Just be careful during updates with such important things like C++ runtimes. The problem may occur weeks after you did the upgrade.

A good link to downgrade xlC is following: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21219598
