RMAN: Issues connecting to Target DB

I described how to create a RMAN db and install one DB in it in an earlier blog entry.

If you try to add another Oracle DB in it with TDP for Oracle and you get following errors:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE

STACK FOLLOWS ===============

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

RMAN-00554: initialization of internal recovery manager package failed

RMAN-04005: error from target database:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges

check that you are using the correct local user.

Sometimes the system user is not allowed connect to the target database and you have to use one of the other users like sys/sysdba.

Another mistake is that you have to set in the initSID.ora the value of

remote_login_passwordfile=’EXCLUSIVE’

This values is not allowed to be set to ‘NONE’ if you are using RMAN. If you do not have a orapwSID file in /oracle/SID/ORA_VERSION/dbs then create one with ‘orapw’.
